[USA] cast of "Rose" tell bisexual teens "It Gets Better"

Kristen Howe, Stephanie Reibel and Fay Wolf from the cast of FenceSitter Film's popular web series "Rose By Any Other Name . . ." appear in a video directed at teens who identify as bisexual

as the blogger "Suburban Bi" notes, "the reality that there is a particular need to target bisexual youth with this message has so far been lost.

The statistic that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth as a whole are 4 times more likely to attempt suicide than their heterosexual peers has just recently permeated the psyche of the US, Canada and a various countries that have been touched by recent events. But the statistics that show how strong suicidal ideation is among bisexuals specifically have been lost in the shuffle. And this community cannot be ignored if we are to reach and affect individuals who need to be helped."

This video which is part of a joint project of FenceSitter Films (FSF) and American Institute of Bisexuality (AIB) is just the first in a series of PSA's that are scheduled to be released over the upcoming months and are part of a number of high visibility steps being undertaken by bisexual organizations aimed at fighting biphobia and bisexual erasure.

Bisexual student says he was harassed by fraternity

When Andy Ruiz decided to join UC Riverside's local Lambda Theta Phi chapter last winter he said he did so with the understanding that his sexual orientation might cause problems with members of the fraternity.
This is the reason Ruiz, now a second year History major, said that he did not tell anyone involved with the frat that he identified himself as bisexual--at least not right away. When signing up for the induction process, Ruiz marked "straight" on the designated form which inquired after his sexual orientation. When Ruiz did confide his sexual orientation to a fellow initiate, he said did not expect word of it to spread....READ MORE and COMMENT AT THE SOURCE

Sirius Q - no bi-identified hosts?

BiNet USA has received a complaint that Sirius OutQ satellite radio - which has alternately bills itself as aimed at the glbt community and also as just the "gay and lesbian community" - apparently has no bi- or trans-identified radio hosts (and some would argue very little if any bi or trans content). Anyone out there have further insights into this and listen regularly to this channel?

Bi identity survey vs others

Will Harpham of Austin College is working on his senior social psychology thesis regarding bisexual identity in comparison to other monosexual sexual orientations. His survey will see if bisexuals have a different mindset and if they are more or less fluid/rigid than monosexuals. Also he is looking to see if bisexuals view themselves and bisexuality differently than how they think others view their bisexual orientation/identity. While he is giving the survey to straight, gay, lesbian and bisexual people regarding romantic partner preference, sexual identification, group identification, perceived stereotypes and threats, thinking styles, self-esteem, and so forth, he is concerned about getting a good number of bisexual/fluid/open participants. To participate, contact him at wharpham@austincollege.edu or 214.335.1516.
